On the 14th of March the casino Baden-Baden invited to another € 500,- Texas Hold’em No Limit event. After taking my usual preparations for a long poker night I started off from Stuttgart at about 4 PM. If you know the traffic on the A8 you won’t be surprised if I tell you it took me a „mere“ three hours to do an 80 miles drive. This motorway is a real disgrace.

I met an old friend for supper in the casino. He had flown in from Brazil only fort his tournament. Well, players like us keep meeting again somewhere on this planet on one ort he other tournament. I was happy to meet some more acquaintances of mine, so time was flying and I suddenly realized that it was already 8.12 PM and the tournament was about to start. Everything went quite well form e during the first couple of hours. I got good cards and I hit the flop frequently enough to maintain a good position and to reach the final table.

This was set at 3 AM. I had about 45000 in chips, that was pretty short stacked but I still felt good. Alas, from then on my chipstack begann to shrink and kept on doing so until I was down to 18000. then I woke up with AQ, went all-in and was xcalled by the Big Blind. He showed T6, and as if that wasn’t cheeky enough he had to hit two pairs right on the flop. That Big Blind, by the way, was my good friend Peter Pavlic, who now grabbed my chips and left me busted in 9th place with € 900,- won.

That call goes to show that somutimes when you gut feeling tells you to call then you should, even if you only have a marginal hand. At the end of the day, good hands are not enough if you want to reach the final table again. And again.
