The second day was far more pleasant. The atmosphere at the table was great and we all had a lot of fun. I was feeling so good that my mood wouldn’t have darkened even if I had been eliminated. With one hand I was able to knock out Rolf Slotboom with 4 4 against his A 9. At the end of the day my stack had grown to some 11,000 chips. On the third day I again had a good run. The heap of chips in front of me grew and grew eventually reaching 21,600. All this after only having 200 two days previously. Out of 190 at the beginning of the day there were only 60 remaining. The fourth day began with an announcement. The top forty players would receive the money but the casino would reward places 40 –49 each with a prize of 5,000 euros. I wanted to reach 49th place at all costs. Over the next hours I was continually looking at the clock. 59, 58, 57 then for the next 2 hours nobody was eliminated and I became increasingly uneasy. When it was announced much later – at least that’s how it felt – that all the remaining players are in the money, the gambling really started. As I had already reached my target I again took risks and lost a coin flip with A K to 9 9 and shortly afterwards a K J to 3 3. That was my last hand and I finished 43rd. Still, I was in no way disappointed. It was all in all a fantastic tournament. With this story I would like to encourage everyone, and tell you that you should never give up and that it’s always possible to come back and achieve something even when the situation seems hopeless. On that note, all the best”.
