At the beginning of the year I flew with Robert Zipf to Las Vegas and taught him in flight, the Texas Hold’em variation. Hard to believe but Robert, thereupon, played in his first tournament in Las Vegas and at first go finished fifth before losing out to a runner-runner straight with his three queens.
This year I also spent much time in the Baden-Baden casino playing there in cash games. Additionally I travelled to the WSOP in Las Vegas, took a holiday on Aruba and a one week trip to Los Angeles to play in the LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino. I visited the Bicycle Club and went on a detour to San Diego and the Mexican border town of Tijuana. Tijuana, incidentally, is unfortunately a completely run-down, typical border town in which drugs and prostitution dominate where dubious people trying to get a minimum of money out of your pockets continuously harass you. Then the breakthrough came:
